Simply Bloom

I have been actively stalking SimplyBloom Photography for many months now. Their blog is phenomenal and full of images that give me the chills. Literally.
How fabulous are these images? There's nothing about them that says "traditional engagement photos." They look like they belong in the center of a trendy magazine.

If I were in Alabama, there's no doubt, these ladies would be my photographers.
Balloons and bubble gum? Are you kidding? They are clearly after my heart.

Lady Gaga

“The assumption is that my eccentricity is not who I really am, but it is.” She leans in, to clarify things. “I have lost my mind,” she says.

I kind of heart how totally bizarre she is...

Silhouettes!

The silhouettes for our invitations, programs, cocktail napkins, etc., ad nauseam are in and I am IN LOVE.

From these:

To these:

Jamie of the etsy shop Blue Clara created ours and obviously, she is fabulous. She's the best deal in town and didn't seem even mildly annoyed by my neurotic requests.

Put on your bad idea jeans.

This is never not funny.

Public Transportation

When you live in NYC, you become accustomed to spotting celebrities. You see them in restaurants, on the street, at Starbucks... no big deal. Today, however, I experienced a first. I saw one getting on the subway! Kudos for taking the train with the rest of us little people, Carson.

Reason #419928 that my photographer is a bad-ass

He's much more than just a wedding photographer... In fact, he's just returned from a trip to a leper colony in Ethopia where he took stunning photos.

Like this:

How cool is this?

This couple had the names of EACH of their guests on their cake! I would insist that I be served the slice with my name on it. Then I would identify myself as the guest with the longest name. As I've mentioned before, my addiction to sugar is real and debilitating.

From this wedding on Orange Girl Photographs.

Viva Las Vegas?

I had high hopes for Sin City... but, I mainly spent the weekend choking on second hand smoke and feeling terribly old.

Ummmmm, people smoke indoors in Las Vegas. How come no one told me this? I was incredulous, walking around all weekend wondering aloud "how can people be allowed to smoke inside?" and "does everyone in this town smoke?"

We attended a male revue... against our will, I might add. I am pretty convinced that our bachlorette was the only one there without a tiara, lingerie and a blow up doll.

Let me just sum up the experience by sharing a scene from the evening:

An Australian "dancer" jumps up on a nearby table and pours a beer all over himself. He jumps down from the table and approaches us.

I am in a panic that either he or the beer dripping from his body (which we are convinced is carrying the herpes virus) will touch us. I begin to scream and scramble to seek cover under the table as the bachlorette screams at me "never show them fear!!"

I did enjoy the hell out of bloody marys by the pool though...

Dirty Bangs

Dear Jessica, Jessica, Drew, Hayden, Rachel, Lauren and Jen,

Just a quick thank you for introducing this whole braided bang look. Nothing like a quick and easy way to hide a dirty bang. I've extended countless blow-outs thanks to your (hairstylist's) ingenuity. Who said celebrities had nothing to contribute to the good of mankind!? Not me!
Signed,
Dirty Banged in NYC

Downsizing

Though we're all sick to death of hearing about the economy, there is an interesting article in AM New York, about NYC couples cutting corners to save some money. We have not yet had to make any major cuts, but if there was ever a bit of flexibility with the budget, it's long gone.

Vegas, baby!

from here

I'm heading to Vegas this weekend for a bachlorette (no, not mine). I've never been and I cannot wait. Sunning and sinning, here we come!
I've been out of the blog loop this week with a busted computer... I hate technology.

Karl Lagerfeld, man genius

Fabulous excerpts from a recent K.L. interview in Harper's Bazaar.

"Never use the word cheap. Today everybody can look chic in inexpensive clothes...You can be the chicest thing in the world in a T-shirt and jeans- it's up to you. The T-shirt can be impeccable, and the jeans too. The body has to be impeccable as well- that helps alot. If it's not, buy small sizes and less food."

Thanks Karl. I have Narciso Rodriguez taste and an H&M budget these days, so I appreciate your approval of bargain shopping.

"Dress for yourself and the man you love (if there is one). Women dressing to impress other women- forget about that. It's a very bad way of thinking."

I admit it, I dress for my girlfriends. There, I said it. Don't we all? If I dressed for David I would be stuck in pageant hair, wearing stilettos, a mini skirt and a plunging tank top everyday, and really, is that practical? I think not.

The interview is classic and full of brutal honesty, "Very high heels actually look better on tall girls, but men hate to walk around with giants who make them feel like midgets," and "I am very against looks that put women under what I call 'permanent sexual alarm.' That can be very embarrassing for others- and, when not followed by action, it's also kind of ridiculous." Plus, some pretty harsh criticisms. You must read the whole article.

The way we were.

I've already told you about The Commons, on Flickr. I'm hoping you've had a chance to head over. Clearly, the New York Public Library's collection is my favorite collection.
Here are two shots of the South Street Seaport, the location of our reception.
